2nd WPBT Results -- Terrible!

I think my stats say it all:

You finished in 81st place (eliminated at hand #1444425328).

51 hands played and saw flop:
- 2 times out of 6 while in small blind (33%)
- 3 times out of 6 while in big blind (50%)
- 1 times out of 39 in other positions (2%)
- a total of 6 times out of 51 (11%)

Pots won at showdown - 0 out of 1 (0%)
Pots won without showdown - 2

I got out 81st after making an incredibly unnecessary gamble with KQh with only just over T1000 left. I flopped the nut flush draw, but I didn't have to go for it. I was sort of on tilt from the first hand I played, Aces that got cracked. I felt myself just giving up. Especially because KQh was the second best hand I had in those 51 I saw after the aces. Still had fun and glad that Matt managed to make it to 14th and the money. Woot!

Til next time. Thanks and congrats to 4th-place finished Iggy for setting it up.

World Poker Bloggers Tour Tourney

Let's see if I can outlast myself from the last blogger tournament -- the next event is tomorrow, at Poker Stars on March 30th. I'm 43 now on the leaderboard, and I'm shooting for...the top ten! Aim high!

Readers are welcome. It's a really fun tourney -- much better than your average MTT online.

Cyndy Violette: NOT Nude!

I don't know why, but there's been a huge influx of people coming here hoping to find a nude picture of Cyndy Violette. Why? There are none here. Even if I had one, I wouldn't post it. But I don't know why all of a sudden there's the burning urge to find one. I always get a few random hits for [Insert Women Poker Player Name] + Nude, but never 50 to 60 people a day. If you'd like to 'splain, I'd appreciate it.

If you're looking to see Cyndy have a good time outside the table, she does have videos of her annual party on her Web site. Which does seem to be down right now. I blame prurient poker parties. That's right, I said prurient!

In Stores

I haven't seen it myself in stores, but there it is in Rockefeller Center. Photo via Matt. I do dig the spine.

Edited to Add: Dude! I just noticed I'm next to Brunson. That is so cool.

Just When I Thought I Was Out...

They keep dragging me back in! I cashed out of Party a while back, but I just got an email in which they told me that they're giving me 15 free dollars. I can't cash it out until I play 150 hands, but hey, free dummy! I mean money! I mean dummy.

Meanwhile, I had a long post that got erased by the cursed blogger but I wanted to thank Iggy, Pauly, DonkeyPuncher, Matt, and Lydia for the blog pimpin' shoutouts. Y'all rock.

And also I wanted to say I'm a little flipped out by the idea that everyone has gotten or is getting their copies of my book now. It's kind of like being workshopped by the whole world at once. I might be hiding under my desk for the rest of the week.

Garofalo Dukes it Out

Garofalo Has Winning Hand for NBC Pilot

I've always liked Janeane Garofalo, ever since she was dorky enough to perform wearing jean shorts and tights back in the days when that was actually a fashion. Never a good one, mind you, but something about it made her seem like she could be the (more) sarcastic, funny friend in my gang.

Anyway, she's been cast to star in "All in" the Kudrow-produced sitcom about Annie Duke's life. I think that could actually be a pretty good fit.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm a little tipsy off "The New York Times Owns Me" champagne, so I must go.

In Good Company

I did an interview for a Texas Newspaper article about poker, and was pleasantly surprised to find the other poker people the reporter talked to were Gary Thompson, director of WSoP operations, Brad Daughterty, a WSoP champ I'm not that familiar with, and...Chris "Jesus" Ferguson. Cool.

I'm identified as "Toby Bochan, poker player/author/woman"

and what made it in were some mushed-together quotes on "How to beat the boys" including the all-important:

3. Take a last resort.

''Wear a low-cut shirt.''

Read the full article here (reg. required).

Maybe that was my problem last night at my regular game. I was just wearing a regular t-shirt.... Nah. My problem was getting trips and two pairs rivered by flushes, high pairs getting sucked out by low two pairs, and a general lack of aggression. There was also one guy on a crazy mad rush last night -- he took my money and a few others. Ah poker.

Blip in the Book System?

I don't know what this is about or how long it will last, but it seems that right now on Amazon and a few other online stores, you can actually get the book shipped to you now. This of course, shouldn't be, since the official release date is a month away, but it does seem to be the case.

Nerves

Today, I'm all aflutter. First off, tonight I'm holding the Beginners Ladies Poker Class at what I hope will work out to be its permanent new location, the Baggott Inn. I've been teaching women poker in on-the-fly groups irregularly for a while, but I'm hoping they take off and I can hold them monthly. But really, I'm nervous about the news that the book is going to be reviewed in Poker Player Newspaper. It's not so much the paper itself, though it is cool to be in there, but the whole concept of being reviewed. I have no reason to believe that people are going to hate the book, but I also have only let friends read it so far.

Let's just say, even though I've considered myself a writer for over a decade, I've never been one who loved writing workshops and getting critiqued by a group. Or at all. Sometimes I just want to write things and hide them forever in drawers. Speaking of which, a fellow poker blogger who once had the misfortune of being in a poetry workshop with me has arranged an awesome Omaha 8 Freeroll on Noble Poker this Friday, which is forcing me to sign up for yet another site. Hey, they're offering a 100% signup bonus. And I really am getting into Omaha, so I've got no excuse.

Wow.

I just got my first copy of my book. I then jumped up and down in front of my bosses cube and did a little happy dance. Repeat as each coworker comes in. I'm so excited, I just can't hide it!

Now if you'll excuse me, I believe there is more dancing to be done.

Kathy Leibert of Poker's Battle of the Sexes Fame Joins PartyPoker

I find it sad that the headline for this news includes the words "Of Poker's Battle of the Sexes Fame" as the qualifier for Kathy Liebert. Sure, they mention that she's a WSOP Bracelet winner, but leave out that she won inaugural Party Poker Million where the first place prize was $1,000,000. Even though part of the "news" is that she's going on the same cruise in a few weeks.

Anyway, I guess it's good that Party is getting a good female poker player on board.

Toby Leah Bochan DOT COM, baby!

I'm booked for AC for April, which I'm really psyched about. What's more, my publisher has told me I'm going to be seeing my book this week -- a month before it hits the stands. Finally, I'm pleased to announce I have a "real" Web site now, tobyleahbochan.com, which has been generously given to me and set up by Matt. With the spring-like temperatures and all this good news, it hardly seems like Monday.

Anyway, there's not much there now, but it does have the info for the book and for the NYC poker class.

WPC Atlantic City Showdown

Screw Reno! Flights aren't cheap right now and I've discovered the much closer ladies-only event just a few weeks later: Women's Poker Club Atlantic Showdown. My poker pal, Lydia is down to go with me. Woot!

Plus, I have a soft spot in my heart for the Trump Taj Mahal, as it was the first real card room I ever played in, so I'll be happy to return.

Google Search Highlights

I have one of those sitemeter things for this site, and most of the searches that get people here make sense. Things like "poker NYC" or "Nuts Heart." Occasionally, however, I discover I rank #4 on google for a phrase such as nut sucking -- but more entertaining are the ones like watering eyes while watching porn. It just makes you wonder what they were hoping to find.

Found!

I don't usually play multi-table tournaments, since I'm still loving the turbo single-tables and doing fine playing 1/2 Hold Em ring games on Stars, but last night I was kind of bored and there was a $10 buy-in MTT, and well, into it I went. I actually played in a pot-limit MTT this last weekend with Matt who outlasted me and made the money. I find it's a lot more fun to play in these if there's someone else you can sweat when you're not in hands. I entered last night's MTT alone, and lost a large part of my stack when AQs screwed me as it often does, but managed not to totally lose it and just go all-in on nothing. Which is tempting when you have T500 left. But then you realized the limits are only 15/30 still and it's not over for you yet.

Anyway, I wasn't paying the most attention to the game and I watched a heart flush win and then someone said "Oh, The Nut Heart Flush." I thought, are they talking to me? I didn't remember if it was indeed the nut heart flush, but it still seemed like too much of a cooincidence. I typed "Do you know me?" and indeed, he did. It was the first time I've been recognized online. I asked if the player had a blog, he did, and then it clicked. It was on_thg who won the February blogger tourney. How cool. It made the next 30 minutes a lot more fun. I doubled up with AA, but then lost it all slowly and then very quickly when I went all-in with the sad A6s. I stayed and watched On_thg for a while, but not long enough to see him make it to 71st. Congrats. Hey, it might not have been the big money, but it was some money.

Anyway, we both agreed it was time for another blogger tourney. And lo and behold -- one is in the works! Thanks Pauly for keeping the blogworld in the know and CJ for organizing.

Edited to add: I'm an idiot.. CJ is organizing the live blogger tourney. Still, if I can, I will go. So, the question remains, who will organize the next online blogger tourney? I vote for not me! I suck at organizing! And reading, apparently!

Women's Poker Network.com teams up with Kathy Liebert

The Women’s Poker Network.com along with partner World Women’s Poker Tour announced today that Professional Poker Player Kathy Liebert will be the official spokeswoman for the group. Kathy is one of the top female Pros in the world and the first female to win a million dollar payday when she won the first Party Poker Million prize.

read the full PR release

I'm very tempted to go to Reno for this event sponsored by the Women's Poker Network. I'd love to meet Kathy Liebert and Linda Johnson and the idea of playing in both the Saturday Limit and Sunday no-limit is very interesting. Despite my all-girl classes and games, I've never played in a real ladies-only tournament. I think it'd be pretty tough, honestly.

Hmmm....
